Over the last few months, I have been reminded of the amazing community I am part of, be it my church here in Lima or Edinburgh, Latin Link, family and friends in Peru or abroad. Thank you for being part of my community!
During September and November, I welcomed a family and a married couple at the airport. It’s always fun and exciting meeting new people as they arrive with all the unknowns of what the next months will hold, yet with the certainty of knowing that God knows and has special plans for them during their time with Latin Link.
In September it was Efraín, who is a strider, and his wife, Livia who is a long-term member of Latin Link, and their son, whom I met at the airport. They are now working with a local church in Arequipa which works alongside the Quechua speaking population as well as Spanish speakers. They continue to settle into their new home and roles and I made a pastoral visit to them at the start of December.
The Stenning’s arrived at the end of November and after they have had time visiting friends in Peru I will be holding an orientation week for them in January. We first met in 2018 when they were visiting Peru and then we talked about Latin Link and what is stride. So it’s great they are now starting out on the stride programme. They will be having their Spanish language classes in Lima before moving to Arequipa later in 2023.
I was also able to see Elvira off at the airport in September as she flew to Spain. She will be there for two years as a Strider.

Since the start of August, I have been helping teach English to a group of students in Peru and other Latin American countries in the evenings, via zoom. The students have the goal of studying theology at a master’s level in Europe. It’s been a challenge for them … and me! … but I have enjoyed spending time with and getting to know them. I finish this teaching role at the end of the year.
Looking forward to the year ahead, in February there is the Latin Link ‘International Gathering’ which, because of the Covid pandemic, is a year later than originally planned. The Latin Link family from all over Latin America and Europe will come together in Bolivia to spend time looking back, reflecting, planning and prayerfully adapting ourselves for how we consider God is leading us forward in his ever-changing world.
In July we hope to have a step team come to Peru for a few weeks. The aim is for the team to help a church build their own earthquake proof building where they can have meetings and events, and be involved in the general life of the church and community. Also, in July, we hope to be able to send a group of Peruvians to Ecuador as part of ‘Connecting Step’, an international step team. Plans for both of these teams are well on the way.

Amongst all that is going on, Carlos and I are grateful for the weeks holiday we had at the start of November. We had a relaxing time by the coast, just south of Lima. God knew we would need that holiday before we did!
Thank you so much for all your prayers and support shown in many different ways.
We would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

– for the political situation in Peru
I am the Latin Link Short Term Coordiantor (STC) for Peru. The STC coordinates the Step (teams) and Stride (people) programmes, placing them in projects lasting from a few weeks to two years. Now based in Lima, I will be getting involved in a local church and my local community.
