For those who don’t know me, I’m Hannah and I’m from Devon in England. I have lived in Edinburgh for the last seven years. I enjoy being outdoors and having tea and cake with friends. Since a young age I have been passionate about the caring for God’s creation and helping others. When I left my teaching post earlier this year I felt challenged to step out of my comfort zone and pursue this further.
This has led me to go out to Peru through Latin Link’s ‘Stride’ programme to work alongside the Christian conservation charity ‘A Rocha’. I will be involved in a reforestation project that has an educational element. It is my hope and prayer that as I do this I will have opportunities to share the gospel with people I meet.
As I prepare to go, please join with me in praising God for this wonderful opportunity. It seems that this project has been written especially for me. As I look back over the past few years, it is exciting to see how God has brought me to this stage. Please pray that over the next few months that “my love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight”. (Philippians 1:9). Please pray that as I grow in God, He would get the glory from it.
Please pray that God will provide the finances I need and that I will get a good grasp of the language (Spanish). I am really looking forward to going to Peru, but at the same time anxious about leaving family and friends. Pray that I would know God’s presence and strength as I go to new places and meet new people. Please pray for the A Rocha Peru staff as they prepare to have me as part of their team for a year. Pray that good relationships would be formed and that I would be a blessing to them.
As well as my work with A Rocha, I am looking forward to getting involved in the local community. It is my prayer that I will be a witness of God’s great love to all I meet and have contact with. Pray that God will provide a Christian community to belong to and that I will settle in quickly.
THANK YOU so much for praying with me as I prepare to go to Peru in February 2011. I know I cannot do this in my own strength, but in God’s strength anything is possible. As I reflect on all that has happened over the last months I feel that God is guiding me and calling me to trust and give my all to Him. I have been comforted by the words of Psalm 139: 9 “If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”
Thank you for your support,
With love, Hannah
After some language training to improve my Spanish I will be taking up the role of Short Term Coordiantor (STC) for Peru. The STC coordinates the Latin Link Step (teams) and Stride (people) programmes, placing them in projects lasting from a few weeks to two years. Based in Arequipa, I will be getting involved in a local church and my local community.
